Notes on Long Course records from recent meets
Asselin recently took 12 seconds off the metric mile, overtaking St James Seals teammate Breanne Siwicki from 12 months earlier. In 14 months the two of them have lowered the record time in this event by 37 seconds on a record that had previously stood for 30 years.
VanLandeghem now three-peats the 13-14 50 Fly record, improving her previous bests from ManSask earlier this month, and last year. She also moves into Senior territory with this swim - the Senior Girls 50 Fly was held these past 10 years and 3 weeks by former Manitoba great Kelly Stefanyshyn. She also reset the Manitoba Age Group record in the 100 Fly, which also becomes the National Age Group Record.
Earlier this summer, and along with teammates Dixon, Plant, and Mackenzie, she also brought home the 200 Free Relay a tenth under the previous record of 12 years standing. Keep your eyes on this entire foursome as they are now swimming past previous Manta & national greats Alroubaie, Stefanyshyn, Stewart and Burgoyne in this event as well as individual events.
Chanas-Larue betters the 100 Free record recently reset by Manta teammate Bryan Wray. In doing so, both he and Wray out-touched several Manitoba swimming greats: Duncan Lindsay 1971, Eddie Strom 1972, Trevor Jakisch 1981, Luke Small 1988 and Ian Guillen 1992, not to mention David Woodman from 2005. Chanas-Larue’s 200 Back overtakes a year-old record by Seals Bruno Sharpe. With all these swimmers we can be confident we’ll be seeing them accumulating more records in this age group and beyond.
